Global securities lending revenue rises 43% YoY for April

The global securities lending industry has continued to set records in the second quarter of 2026, generating US$1.58 billion in April, representing a 43 per cent year-on-year (YoY) growth, reports EquiLend Data & Analytics.
Heightened macro uncertainty surrounding the conflict in the Middle East drove loan balances to record highs, averaging US$4.42 trillion for the month.
The lender-to-broker market generated US$1.21 million in April 2026, a 41 per cent increase from the same month last year.
Broker-to-broker activity accounted for an additional US$372 million, up 49 per cent from the same period last year.
Equities led the month鈥檚 performance, with lender revenue reaching US$943 million, up 47 per cent YoY, continuing the strong momentum seen last month and throughout 2025.
Fixed income revenues rose to US$262 million, a 23 per cent increase YoY.
Within the lender-to-broker division, North American equity revenue climbed 28 per cent YoY, driven by a 40 per cent increase in loan balances.
Despite fees falling 10 per cent compared to April 2025, lending revenue rose to US$372 million.
Corporate bond lending revenue increased 23 per cent to US$44 million, as a 24 per cent increase in balances offset a 2 per cent decline in fees.
Government bond lending revenue rose 28 per cent YoY, while US Treasury loan balances increased 14 per cent.
Lender-to-broker revenue for EMEA equities increased by 39 per cent YoY, to US$191 million.
Loan balances increased 42 per cent, while fees fell 4 per cent over the same period.
Corporate debt lending revenue increased 3 per cent, as a 17 per cent rise in loan balances offset a 12 per cent decline in fees.
Lending revenue from French government bonds (OATs) and UK Gilts contributed to a 21 per cent YoY increase for the region.
APAC鈥檚 lender-to-broker equity revenue rose 79 per cent YoY to US$376 million, with Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, and Australia each posting lending revenue increases of more than 90 per cent YoY.
Single-stock revenue leaders for April were Contemporary Amperex Technology H Shares, Infosys LTD ADR, BillionToOne Inc, SGS SA, and MiniMax Group, which collectively generated US$68 million, or 6 per cent of lending revenue.
