Cboe has extended trading sessions for select single stock and exchange traded funds (ETF) options on its Cboe Options Exchange (C1).

C1 is currently the only US options exchange providing extended pre and post-market trading sessions for index options.

Pre-trading for the designated single-stock and ETF options is available from 07:30 to 09:25 ET, with a post-market session running from 16:00 to 16:15 ET, Monday to Friday.

The extension applies to 29 equity and ETF underlyings, including large-cap technology equities and major index tracking funds.

Through September, options transactions on these specific underlyings represented approximately 53 per cent of total average daily US-listed options volume for 2026.

Rob Hocking, global head of derivatives at Cboe, says: 鈥淏uilding on our 53-year history of innovation and our expertise in offering expanded hours for our flagship index options, Cboe led this important initiative with extensive input from retail and institutional participants including our US and non-US broker partners, whose insights were critical to a successful launch today.

鈥淭he shift to 24/5 trading across asset classes is only accelerating, and that's been apparent in the demand for Cboe's index options during non-traditional hours, particularly leading up to the US market open when economic data and corporate announcements are commonly released.鈥

Josh Krugman, senior vice president of brokerage at Fidelity Investments, states: 鈥淥ptions have long been an important tool for Fidelity investors seeking to manage risk and pursue market opportunities.

鈥淐boe's extended trading hours represent a meaningful evolution for the options market, giving investors greater flexibility and choice in how and when they engage with these strategies.鈥

Neil McDonald, CEO of Moomoo US, comments: 鈥淲e're proud to partner with Cboe to offer our customers access to extended trading hours for select equity options from day one.

鈥淭his expansion gives retail investors more flexibility to manage their positions and respond to market-moving news before the opening bell and after the close."

Under its operational risk protocols, Cboe will not open an options class if the underlying security has not opened.

Cboe will also halt trading in an options class if the associated underlying security undergoes a trading halt.

The exchange operator already provides extended trading for its proprietary index options during Global Trading Hours (08:15 to 09:25 ET) and Curb Trading Hours (16:15 to 17:00 ET).

For its equities business, Cboe plans to launch 23-hour trading, five days a week, on the Cboe BZX Exchange on 6 December 2026, subject to regulatory and industry readiness.
