The Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) has confirmed the Shanghai Electronic Certification Authority (SHECA) as China鈥檚 latest Qualified vLEI Issuer (QVI), strengthening the country鈥檚 digital identity and trade infrastructure within the global verifiable Legal Entity Identifier (vLEI) ecosystem.

The vLEI, developed by GLEIF as the secure digital counterpart to the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI), provides organisations and their representatives with cryptographically verifiable identities.

As a QVI, SHECA will now be authorised to issue, validate, and verify vLEIs, expanding its existing capabilities to include trusted digital identity services for domestic and international organisations.

According to GLEIF, the development will help Chinese companies meet regulatory requirements across a range of cross-border trade scenarios by allowing counterparties and their representatives to verify identities securely.

Alexandre Kech, CEO of GLEIF, says: 鈥淚ncreasing momentum for the vLEI reflects the fact that truly global commerce demands interoperable digital organisational identity solutions capable of delivering immediate and automated trust across borders.

鈥淪HECA鈥檚 approval as a QVI marks a significant expansion of the vLEI ecosystem in China, which stands to increase adoption and application across the region to foster simpler, smoother, and safer trade.鈥

Jiuqiang Cui, general manager of SHECA, adds: 鈥淎s a QVI, we look forward to continued collaboration with GLEIF to support the development of next-generation digital identity solutions that address longstanding trust issues in cross-border identity verification 鈥 streamlining compliance, reducing risks and costs, and stimulating global trade.鈥
